The Long Island Sound (LIS) Chapter supports the Chief Warrant Officers of the Connecticut and Long Island area.
The LIS chapter is involved with various community service projects including working with American Legion Post 15 to deliver Thanksgiving meals to shut-ins, volunteering at the CT Food Bank and collecting unwanted bed linens from each graduating CG Academy class for distribution to local shelters.
At the Coast Guard Academy, the LIS chapter presents an honorary coin to the Enlisted Person of the Quarter and an Honorary plaque to the Enlisted Person of the Year. The LIS Chapter also partners with the local Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association and Coast Guard Enlisted Association to provide fod and beverage concessions for CG Academy sporting events. As a representative of the CWOA, the LIS chapter presents awards and provides mentoring to the corps of Cadets, that is, hundreds of future officers of the U.S. Coast Guard annually.
Additionally, the LIS chapter works extensively with the Chief Warrant Officer Professional Development School at the Leadership Development Center, New London, by sponsoring a welcome reception for each class and making a formal presentation about the CWOA. On graduation day, the LIS chapter also presents a physical fitness award to the student that accumulates the most aerobic points in three weeks.
